One of the biggest blessings in life is happiness. I wrote my first book released July 13, 1999 entitled "Seven Steps to Lasting Happiness". Even though the book is 11 years old, the messages are timeless!!
I wanted to write this book because I have been very fortunate to be blessed with happiness through ups and downs. However, over the last few weeks, I have seemed to struggle with happiness despite being successful.
Upon reflection, I discovered that external success does not result in inner happiness. Secondly, and more insightful for me, I realized that my slight unhappiness stemmed from the skepticism that has creeped into my being. Somehow, I have begun to doubt some people's motives - something I've never done in the past. Does it mean, this skepticism is a sign that I have to question my own motives? Or, have I learned not be naive enough to trust everyone unconditionally?
I think it is a bit of both.
The price I am paying is losing some of my deep inner happiness. This is a huge cost since inner happiness is priceless! Therefore, I am trying to ensure that my intentions are aligned with my actions. I also continue to give people the benefit of doubt as much as possible. This means that though I might not be naive, I am willing to give the chance to those who deserve it.
I has also been important for me to be grateful for the happiness that I encounter everyday, because it gives me a sense of hope.
How about you? How do you maintain your inner happiness?
