Why are you here?

We were observing a whole night of prayers yesterday as part of our month of fasting. This is the night when we believe the Holy Prophet (may peace of God be upon him) received the revelation. It is supposed to be a very powerful night.

During a reflection moment, I thought: If I was born with no material goods and I will die without taking material goods with me, then what is the purpose of my life? My goal was to get a response to this question during the night.

I did not directly get an answer; maybe I was not praying intensely enough or my focus and concentration was not 100%. However, indirectly, a thought did creep into my being:

The purpose of my visit to planet earth for a few decades is:

- To leave the world a better place then when  I found it

- To be a loving husband, father, son and human being

- To practice and promote the power of giving and make a positive difference to one and all  

Hey, when we die we don't take with us what we have, but rather we take with us what we gave!
